Transforming Havering

Havering - The Place

Havering is a great London Borough with a proud history and an exciting future. Granted a Royal Liberty 540 years ago, the Borough has held a regular street market in Romford since 1247. Today Havering is London's third largest borough, with a population of over 220,000 and an area of 11,227 hectares, of which almost nearly half is open green space.

The Borough has some excellent services - our Adults and Childrens Services both received scores of 3 from the CQC and Ofsted respectively. Our schools are excellent. We have a lively cultural scene, centred on the Queen's Theatre and Fairkytes Arts Centre. Leisure facilities are second to none, with three recently refurbished leisure centres with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The borough is also a great place to shop. There are 250,000 regular shoppers in Romford town centre alone.

In terms of growth and improvement, Havering has invested heavily in its town centres – including £400 million for Romford - and ploughed over £2m into parks and open spaces. And with London Riverside, Thames Gateway and London 2012 on our doorstep the future looks very exciting.

Havering is a great place to live. The Borough has low levels of crime, a good environment and excellent transport links to central London and the rest of the country. It has a strong economy and a very good education system while residents enjoy good health, excellent leisure facilities and a lively cultural scene.
